Politics, policy, and advocacy involving Veteran issues throughout the NYC Metro area with the goal to get more Veterans involved in setting policy that affects them the most.
The NYC Veteran Alliance has two segments: a 501(c)4 which writes, lobbies, and supports Veteran and related policies through the city of New York. The 501(c)3 (pending) segment sponsors programming encouraging Veterans to get more involved in politics, from the local to the national level. The Alliance hosts events including meet-ups and happy hours, panel discussions, workshops, and other activities both independently and in partnership with local organizations. These events are often open to the public, but some are Alliance members-only.
A small organization lead by a tenacious leader. She does a lot for the veterans of NYC and is a good veteran to all. This group of veterans are paving the way for veterans in NYC and don't take crap from two faced politicians. They throw fun events for networking and are always a blast.
NYC Veterans Alliance is the best resource to get information about all veteran related events happening in New York City. Besides being the information hub, they aggressively advocate for veteran's rights at the city and state level and let the veteran community know what their rights are and what they are fighting for.
This organization is starting to come into its own, I think. I attended an event recently and they are really starting to focus back on local policy instead of events, which is perfect. We didn't have anything in the area getting local community members involved in active policy and politics, advocacy or running for office, and so they are actually filling a need in the community. I hope they keep filling that need and don't get distracted from it, like some of the other organizations around seem to have done. I know it can be tough to fundraise when you are focused on policy, so hopefully they can figure it out. But for those who really want to get involved in the community, this is a good example and a good org to go to (and worth the membership).
NYC Veterans Alliance is small yet extremely efficient in it's programming and policy and legislative advocacy efforts. Their programming not only promotes civic leadership but offers educational opportunities to community members that encourage greater community and civic involvement.
The NYC Veterans Alliance is a true grassroots organization, doing the work on the ground to benefit veterans and their families in NYC. The work the Alliance has done in getting veterans and spouses ready to run for elected office with the Get Ready to Run program is particularly notable, and I'm looking forward to seeing the next generation of thoughtful and committed leaders that NYC Veterans Alliance is training and mentoring.
Extremely organized and they make Veterans aware of all Veteran-related activities. They also advocate on behalf of Veterans to many different organizations. They get things DONE.
Belonging to veterans service organizations for the past 50 years was important to me. It allowed me to access assistance and reflect on my service. NYC Veterans Alliance goes way beyond the traditional service organizations. First it is open and inclusive to all genders, branches of service and eras. The services provided by the Alliance are exactly what a veteran needs from housing to employment to camaraderie. There are programs daily and they are educational with current events as well as basic needs for info about the VA, etc. Wonderful people with good ideas run this organization. Fromm parades to politics, they are there to help veterans and their loved ones. In fact family members may join and help. They are not separated into a spouses organization, they are with the veterans on all counts.
Great work shop. Very thankful for the hard work of the organization in putting this together. [Pathfinder Note: Reference is to Veterans Campaign Weekend Workshop, organized for NYC by the NYC Veterans Alliance]
An incredible organizing bringing veterans together in an absolutely innovative way
In its first year of existence, this organization has accomplished far more than established organizations have accomplished in 10 years. The team is committed, focused, and above all effective. If you are looking to run for a political office, organize for a political cause, or just meet active members in your community, I highly recommend that you connect with NY Vets Alliance.
This organization has done more in its first year of existence than many established, well-funded organizations have in a decade or more. Startups are hard, and I admire the work and fortitude of the founding team at the NYC Veterans Alliance. By involving veterans directly in prioritizing and creating policy solutions, they've succeeded in pressing NYC government to listen to and change laws and agency practices to benefit veterans and families in NYC and beyond. Become a member and join in the success of this fresh approach to making veterans lives better!
The founder is as dedicated and professional as they come and works very well with the mayors office to organize and put on events.
There are not always a lot of ways to find cultural events that are geared towards veterans. NYC Veterans Alliance is one of those organizations you can count on to connect you to year-round for acting classes with culturally-important off-Broadway theaters. Art (for me) is not for therapy, it's my heart, and it's great when non-profits can support you that way. They helped me find and connected me with what I was looking for just based on being a group that cares.
Loved what NYC Veterans Alliance was all about, I decided to become a founding member! Can't wait for what's in store. So far it's been great. The emails are key for me, they keep me updated on what's going on within our community without me having to search the web. The events are always fun and informative and well staffed.
Finally somewhere we can track those that serve the veteran's in New York City
Good idea, but maybe overcrowding the NY veterans space.
NYC Veterans Alliance is not another veterans organization. Instead, it leverages the thoughts and ideas of the entire veterans community in New York City to make it a better place for veterans. Rather than saying they will get things done, they make things happen. Some of their policy victories from 2015 are a prelude of great things to come in 2016
